Slack Wax

Slack wax is a petroleum-derived product that is obtained during the refining of crude oil. It is a semi-solid material that consists of a mixture of oil and wax. Slack wax has a relatively high oil content and a melting point higher than paraffin wax but lower than fully refined waxes.

The term "slack" refers to the intermediate state of wax during the refining process, where it is neither fully liquid nor fully solid. Slack wax contains various hydrocarbons, including long-chain alkanes, and may also contain  impurities such as resins, asphaltenes, and sulfur compounds.

Slack wax is further processed to produce different types of waxes, depending on the desired application. It can be subjected to solvent extraction or deoiling processes to remove the oil content and impurities, resulting in fully refined waxes. These refined waxes have a higher melting point, improved color, and increased purity, making them suitable for applications such as candle making, coatings, polishes, and various industrial uses.
